Modern teal green AI ethics foundation certificate template
This free AI ethics foundation certificate confirms that an employee completed an introductory course on responsible AI. It suits HR and L&D teams rolling out AI literacy training to every employee, for example, before a Copilot or generative AI rollout. Course providers that run foundation courses for client staff can use it too.
The design pairs a white main area with a dark teal side panel that has a notched edge and shows the level and a QR code. Teal and cyan circles sit in two corners, and a dark teal "Foundation Level" pill sits under the course description. Two signature lines and the issue and "valid until" dates run along the bottom, and the certificate ID sits at the top next to the logo.
When a training wave closes, import the completion list from a spreadsheet or issue from your HR system. Every certificate goes out at once, and nobody types names into a design file. Each employee's credential page has a verification link on every plan, and the side-panel QR code points to it on Professional and Advanced.
What is an AI ethics foundation certificate?
An AI ethics foundation certificate shows that a named person completed an entry-level course on responsible AI, covering topics like accountability, transparency, and human oversight. Organizations use it to keep documented evidence of the AI literacy measures they've taken for their staff.
A certificate shows that a person completed your course. It doesn't prove their skill level, and it doesn't prove that your organization complies with the AI Act.
This template is laid out on A4 landscape (29.7 x 21 cm). Sign up for a free Certifier account to edit the design and issue your first round of certificates.
What should an AI ethics foundation certificate include?
For all-staff training, keep it to three answers: who completed the course, what it covered, and when.
Static fields
- Organization block: Your organization name and program line (e.g., Clearpath AI Academy, Foundations of Responsible AI).
- Logo: Your logo next to the organization name.
- Certificate title: The award name (e.g., Certificate in AI Ethics and Governance).
- Level label: The level in the side panel and the pill under the description (e.g., Foundation).
- Signature areas: Two signature lines for the people behind the program (e.g., Rachel Kim, Academic Director, and Gabriel Kess, Head of AI Governance).
Dynamic fields (automatically populated by Certifier)
- Recipient name: The employee's full name (e.g., Charles Edward Richarson).
- Program description: What the course covered (e.g., responsible AI principles, accountability, transparency, and human oversight).
- Department (optional): Add a field for team or department, so HR can sort records later.
- Date issued: The completion or issue date (e.g., April 16, 2026).
- Valid until (optional, Professional and Advanced): The expiry date, if you refresh AI literacy training on a cycle (e.g., April 16, 2028).
- Certificate ID and verification link: A unique ID at the top of the design and a verification link, on every plan.
You can rename, add, or remove fields in Certifier's design builder until the layout matches your training records.
How to issue AI literacy certificates to all staff
- Brand the design: Upload your logo and the signatures of your program owner and AI governance lead. Change the program name if your course has its own title.
- Collect the completion list: Export the names and emails of everyone who finished the course from your LMS or HR system into a spreadsheet. One upload takes up to 1,000 recipients.
- Issue in one run: Match the spreadsheet columns to the certificate fields and send. Each employee gets an email with their certificate and a link to their credential page. For a few late finishers, you can also issue credentials from ChatGPT or Claude.
- Keep the record current: Use the Credential Repository to see who opened or shared their certificate, add new hires as they finish, and fix a misspelled name without reissuing.

Who issues AI ethics foundation certificates?
HR and L&D teams
When an AI policy goes live or a new AI tool rolls out, HR and L&D teams run AI literacy training for every employee. One certificate per person gives them a dated record to show clients and auditors.
AI literacy course providers
Providers selling foundation courses to companies issue a certificate and matching badge to each learner under their own brand or the client's.
AI governance and compliance teams
Client questionnaires about staff AI training land with these teams, who need a quick list of who completed what, and when.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. You can customize the design on the free Starter plan, and this template's custom fields (program description and an optional department) fit within its 5 custom attributes. The QR code and the "valid until" date need the Professional or Advanced plan, but each certificate still links to its credential page on Starter.
No, employees don't legally need an AI literacy certificate under the EU AI Act. Article 4 asks providers and deployers to take measures to support their staff's AI literacy, without requiring any specific level for any individual. A certificate is a simple way to document the training you ran, and a legal advisor can check any sector rules that apply to you.
Issue one certificate per employee from your completion list. Each certificate has a credential ID and an issue date, and the Credential Repository keeps every record in one list you can search when a client or auditor asks.
Yes. Upload a new spreadsheet with only the new names and use the same design. Their certificates join the same list in your dashboard.
No. The AI ethics foundation certificate records that a person completed your course on a given date. Keep it with your training content, your AI policy, and your other records as part of your evidence.
